Johnny Lane was born outside Boston, Massachusetts in 1970.

Lane grew up in a funeral home but his talent for music and the arts quickly led him away from the family business. He attended the Rhode Island School of Design and studied painting.

Lane’s first solo art exhibition was Fashion Editor @ Lionheart in Boston in 1998. Followed by a successful group show- Forever Is A Hell Of A Long Time @ Bronwyn Keenan in New York City in 1999. His paintings echo the style of Les Fauves, emphasizing strong colour and line over the realistic.

Lane moved to Southern California in 2000, started a family and founded the dog rescue @muttscouts with his wife.

He is artist in residence at Herb & Wood in San Diego. A catalog of his paintings is due out in early 2025 from publisher Steidl.
